Materials:
- Uncooked rice (as to not be wasteful of food, I used repurposed rice from a previous I-spy bottle from my classroom, you could also used expired rice)
- Small washable container(s) (plastic bags if you don’t have a container/jar)
- Acrylic paints (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple)
- Letter beads (one of each letter of the Alphabet)
- Plastic bottle (I used a recyclable smoothie bottle, washed and dried throughly)
Instructions:
- Start by separating your rice into 6 small amounts.
- Place one portion of rice and a small dab of paint into your container.
- Shake well until all rice is coated in paint.
- Spread the painted rice out on a sheet of parchment paper to dry (try to avoid any large clumps).
- Repeat this process for each color of rice.
- Once the colored rice has dried you can run your fingers through it to break up any small clumps that may have formed.
- Add all of your colors of rice and letter beads to a clean plastic bottle.
- Close tightly and shake well.
- Once the desired appearance has been reached I highly recommend hot gluing inside the lid to help prevent the bottle from being opened. (This is not a fail safe and these bottles should be played with while being supervised by an adult)!
